Shew v. Malloy
(opposing the Connecticut gun law)

admin Firearms Law

Shew involves a Second Amendment challenge to Connecticut’s recent ban on so-called “assault weapons” and so-called “high-capacity magazines.”

CLDEF filed an amicus curiae brief which argued that Connecticut is not free to regulate away constitutional rights by balancing them against society’s desire to feel safe.  The brief also argued that the law violates the constitutional provision against “titles of nobility” by granting permanent exemptions to various state officials and those who “register” their weapons with the state.

The case is still pending.
